Shri M.C. Bhandare Honble Governor of Orissa & Shri. Suparno Satpathy-Chairman SNSMT paying floral tribute to legendary late Smt. Nandini Satpathy on her 77th birth anniversary

June 9, national daughters’ day - NANDINI DIWAS in year 2008 was celebrated in many parts of India- New Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Sharanpur etc. In Bhubanesar -Orissa Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) celebrated NANDINI DIWAS -08. This day commemorated the first anniversary of Project Nandini- the social cause project which works for the development of semi urban & rural women of India. In the year 2008 this project moved into its second out of four phases- ‘Nandini’ is a young lady. The said project is an initiative of SNSMT. This day also commemorated the 77th birth anniversary of legendary late Smt.Nandini Satpathy.

On this day SNSMT organized a meeting at the Soochana Bhawan of Bhubaneswar where noted social activists, economists, political grass root workers, elected women representatives and the intelligentia were invited to exchange vision, ideas, experience etc to create a Roadmap for the development of rural women. The same is termed as ‘Vision -2010 for the Rural Women’. Participation of noted personalities of Orissa & from other parts of the country was witnessed at Soochana Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.

On the occasion H.Ex Shri. M.C Bhandare the hon’ble Governor of Orissa participated as the’Chief Guest’. Shri. Niranjan Patnaik (Ex Minister of Orissa) participated as the ‘Guest of Honor’ . Dr. Saraswati Swain & Dr. Seba Mahapatra both noted social activists and women achievers were invited as special invitees. Shri. Suparno Satpathy the Hon’ble Chairman of Smt.Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust addressed the august house and presented the report on Project Nandini -year 2007-08.

The evening witnessed presentation of two Nandini Puraskar-08 . The said is presented by SNSMT to achievers each year. Achievers who have contributed for the development of rural women. Expert panel of SNSMT select two achievers each year for this prestigious award. Dr. Saraswati Swain the noted author, political activist, social worker and expert on female foeticide was awarded Nandini Puraskar-08. Dr. Seba Mahapatra noted social worker and expert on health management of rural women too was awarded with the Nandini Puraskar -08. These awards were presented by the Hon’ble Governor of Orissa.

Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust is very thankful to all its national & international volunteers, patrons , donors, educators etc. for the substantial progress of project Nandini in the first year of operation. The trust is specially thankful to Dr.Manmohan Singh the Hon’ble PM of India, Smt.Sonia Gandhi the hon’ble Chairperson of UPA & late Smt.Nirmala Deshpande the noted Gandhian / social worker for their encouragement for the noble cause of the trust.
